Danica Mitchell, LCSW, AASECT

Hi, I’m Danica, and I’m here to help you connect with yourself and others in a way that feels authentic, joyful, and empowering.

I’m an LCSW with a Bachelor’s from NYU and a Master’s from Columbia University. I am also an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. Coming from a social work background, I take a person-in-environment approach, understanding that your environment—whether at home, work, or in your community—affects your mental well-being. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), strength-based, and person-centered therapy, while also incorporating more somatic or “bottom-up” approaches.

I work with adults and couples from all orientations and backgrounds, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and those in Ethical Non-Monogamous relationships. Specializing in sex therapy, I work with a range of concerns, including sexual dysfunctions (such as vulvodynia, vaginismus, erectile dysfunction, and premature ejaculation), low libido, desire discrepancies, problematic porn behaviors, kink, fetishes, relationship anxiety and more. As a sex therapist, I find so much beauty in the journey people take to understand themselves and their desires—whether they’re seeking a deeper connection with a partner or just with themselves. Unfortunately, our culture often surrounds sex with stigma and shame, making many people feel isolated or “broken” when they experience challenges or curiosities in this area. I’m here to change that narrative. I believe there’s no “normal” when it comes to sex—just what’s right for you. My goal is to help you define what that looks like and connect with your desires in a way that feels fulfilling and true to who you are.

I view therapy as a collaborative space where we work together to create a safe, trusting environment. I understand that you may be sharing things you haven’t shared with anyone before, and I strive to adapt my approach to what works best for you, whether that means letting conversations flow freely, offering structured exercises, or providing tools for exploration outside of therapy. Real change happens when you’re ready to be open and willing to try new things in real life, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.

On a personal note, I’m a big nerd and an unapologetic romantic. I love reading everything from fantasy romance to sci-fi, and I’m passionate about anime, and tabletop RPGs. I’m also a huge animal lover, and my three cats might occasionally pop in to say hello during our sessions. I love to travel, explore new places, and express myself through art—especially tattoos (I’ve lost count of how many I have!). I find balance in music, a regular gym practice (despite having once hated working out), humor, and the support of my friends, family, and kitties.

I love what I do because it allows me to help people, and I’m always motivated to continue expanding my expertise and knowledge to provide the best support I can.

If you’re considering therapy, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out to schedule your first appointment or a free 15-minute consultation. Let’s work together to cultivate a fulfilling and satisfying life.

Looking forward to connecting with you!

Patient Testimonials

Danica saved my marriage! We started seeing Danica once a week a few years back (there were some rough mornings) BUT it was the best decision I have made in my adult life. My wife and I were having issues communicating and we had lost our “I’s” in our relationship. Through working with Danica, we were able to get through a very difficult time and come out on the other side! It’s been 3 years and we are happily married with our first child. I cannot recommend Peaceful Way Psychology enough to anyone who tells me they are having troubles with their significant others.

Danica is an absolutely incredible therapist. When I first started working with her, I was a very different person. My outlook on the world was different. Danica once said that therapy is 10% sessions and 90% what you do out of sessions. With Danica’s grace and assistance in that 10%, I was able to use her guidance and tools to make the 90% even better. Danica offers strong and helpful advice, she listens and helps narrow issues and problems, and provides clarity that lets her clients help themselves to grow into the person they want to become. I owe a lot to Danica, and for that, I will always recommend her.

Making an appointment to see Danica was the best decision I’ve made! Imagine talking to someone the way you talk to your best friend, but with the degrees to actually know how to answer your questions and help you work thru your problems. She made me feel validated and heard, and since seeing her I feel equipped to handle things that used to paralyze me with fear and anxiety. I’m so grateful for Danica and her help!

26 y.o. Female, Senior Manager

Danica was a wonderful, compassionate and patient provider. She took the time to listen to my worries and respond thoughtfully and productively. She was a true collaborator in my life and I appreciate all of her insight into the many challenges I faced during the two years we worked together. Any patient would be lucky to work with her!
